Definition
Last price is the latest share print we can show for the symbol. If the session is closed or quiet, it may be an older closing price - not necessarily a live trade from this minute.
Purpose & when you need it
Purpose
Last price anchors every other tape and valuation label on the desk - without it, change %, P/E, and chart overlays lose meaning.
When you need it
Use it whenever you open a company page. If trading is closed or the listing is non-compliant, treat the number as history, not a live order book.

Why people look
People start here so the rest of the page has a scale. Tips often paste a price without saying whether it is live, delayed, or yesterday’s close.
Formula (simple)
Last ≈ most recent trade (or last published close) from the market feed we store. No formula invents a print when the feed is empty.
Traps (tip culture)
One price alone does not say if the company is strong, cheap, or busy. A green tip screenshot with no volume or books is incomplete homework.

Not always. Quiet sessions and closed listings may show an older close. Read the desk note next to the print.
Does a rising last mean I should buy?
No. Last is a tape fact. Study Books and Filings, then use a licensed broker for any order.
Why is last blank?
We have no usable print yet. We leave “ - ” rather than invent a price.
