Definition

MACD compares a faster moving average of price with a slower one. The histogram is the gap between MACD and its signal line.

When this looks weak or down

Negative histogram means the shorter price trend is behind the longer one - recent momentum faded. Does not read filings or costs.

Purpose & when you need it

Purpose

MACD summarises whether the short window is running ahead of or behind a slower window - momentum homework, not an entry order.

When you need it

Need enough closes for both windows. Missing history → empty indicator.

Where it appears & why people look

Where

Charts → Indicators on company research when MACD is on.

Why people look

Tip screenshots love a “crossover.” The desk shows the three numbers so you can check the claim.

Formula (simple)

Common form: MACD line ≈ fast EMA − slow EMA. Signal ≈ EMA of MACD. Histogram ≈ MACD − signal. Windows vary by desk settings.

Traps (tip culture)

A crossover is a snapshot, not guaranteed profit. MACD does not read filings or rights issues.

On our desk

Charts / Indicators → MACD values when computed from stored history.

FAQ

Is a MACD crossover a buy tip?

No. It only compares two speed windows of price. Confirm the business on Books.

What is the histogram?

The gap between the MACD line and its slower signal line - size of the lead/lag, not an order.

Can MACD disagree with RSI?

Yes. Different math. Use disagreement as homework, not as a fight between tip groups.
