Definition
Net profit (often PAT - profit after tax) is the bottom-line accounting profit for the period after expenses, interest, and tax (as presented in that filing).
When this looks weak or down
Can fall when costs rise, interest or tax jumps, one-off losses hit, or revenue slips while spending stays high. Read the P&L notes in the filing.
Purpose & when you need it
Purpose
PAT summarises accounting profit after the full stack of costs shown in that filing - an earnings study line, not cash in hand.
When you need it
Need a stored income period. Pair with cash flow when both exist so you do not confuse profit with cash.
Where it appears & why people look
Where
Books → Income → Net profit. Also feeds P/E and ROE when other lines exist.
Why people look
People study PAT for earnings trends and as an input to P/E - always with the same period and after reading one-offs.
Formula (simple)
PAT sits below operating profit on many P&Ls. EPS often derives from PAT attributable to owners ÷ shares - check the note for diluted vs basic.
Traps (tip culture)
One strong PAT quarter is not a tip. PAT without cash flow context can mislead. Seed/sample figures are scaffolding only.

FAQ
Is net profit cash in the bank?
No. Accounting profit can differ from cash. Compare with operating cash flow when both are in the books.
How does PAT relate to EPS?
EPS often uses profit attributable to owners ÷ share count. Check basic vs diluted in the filing note.
Can PAT rise while the share looks weak?
Yes. Price is a separate print. Study both - never treat PAT alone as a tip.
